February 18th, MEGA's Coming Out Support Group, "Coming Home" 7:00-8:30pm New Time! The Metro Atlanta area's only coming out group for adults 18+. The group meets the 3rd Thursday of each month from 7:00-8:30pm. It meets at the MEGA Family Project office space at 1530 Dekalb Avenue, Suite A, Atlanta, GA, 30307. This is such a valuable and much needed resource for our community, so please pass this information along to anyone you think will be interested. February 20th, MEGA Skating Outing, 1-5pm Join the MEGA Family Project at a skating rink that is sure to be fun for the entire family. We will be heading to All American Skate Center at 5400 Bermuda Rd February 25th, MEGA's Legal Protections for Couples and Families, 7pm Join the MEGA Family Project for an evening of interesting conversation about how LGBT couples can best legally protect their relationships in the absence of marriage. Attorney Barbara Katz will share with you information about the legal documents you can put into place to make sure you can visit your partner in the hospital, make medical decisions for each other, protect your estate, and make sure you have the appropriate legal documents in place to protect your children. She will also answer questions about adoption legal issues, name changes, and other legal issues specific to LGBT people in Georgia. If your last names ends in A-F please bring an entree March 10th, MEGA's Annual Lobby Day at the State Capitol, 9am This year MEGA is partnering with Georgia Safe School's Coalition, the ACLU of Georgia, and Georgia Equality to host an "Education Lobby Day" to talk with our legislators about making sure they are doing everything they can to keep our school's safe from bullies. This would include passing stronger, more effective anti-bullying legislation. Prior to the start of the lobby day, we will meet to do a brief lobby training and to go over some current legislative issues that may be of interest to you. You will hear from a panel of professionals and parents who will talk to you about the process of adding a child through adoption, surrogacy, donor insemination, foster parenting, foster adoption, and international adoption. An attorney will speak about the legal issues prospective parents will face, and we will also discuss the emotional and practical issues of becoming a parent. This all-day workshop also includes a family market place where you can speak to professionals about the services they offer. This intensive workshop is the best of its kind in helping you explore your options and whether the parenting journey is right for you. Click here to get more information and to register! This is for anyone who wants to begin exploring the parenting journey. It is meant to give you some basic information about your options for starting a family, dispel myths, and give you a place to discuss what you are thinking and feeling.
